An experienced electronic musician and passionate educator, Matt Tinkler has been creating and performing electronic music with Ableton Live for over a decade. With a knowledge that spans numerous genres of electronic music, Matt creates lush, heavy and emotional music that takes the listener on a sound-driven journey through fantastical landscapes under the solo moniker of Martiln, as exemplified through his ongoing transmedial project REALMS.

A community-minded individual, Matt spent three years at the helm of Melbourne-based music producer community Beat Collective, which provides a safe and inclusive space for music-makers to grow, learn and interact with each other. As part of this role, Matt hosted numerous community events, fostered the growth of a thriving online community and was invited to speak at the Electronic Music Conference (EMC) in 2019. Matt has since stepped into the role of co-organizer of the Ableton User Group Melbourne alongside fellow Certified Trainer, Ben Murphy.

As an educator with extensive knowledge of Ableton Live, Matt has a passion for combining the technical and the creative. Having studied both composition and music production at a tertiary level, Matt guides students in breaking down technical and technological barriers in order to achieve their own creative visions. Currently, Matt delivers classes at the Australian Institute of Music and is a mentor at the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, as well as offering instructional and educational content through his various social media channels as Martiln.

Presently undertaking a Masters in Interactive Composition at the University of Melbourne, Matt intends to pursue his passion for music further as an artist and educator and push the boundaries of contemporary electronic music.
